Effective June 2025, UCSD Health physicians can now access guided meditation and mindfulness exercises, access to one-on-one mental health coaching (24/7) and clinical care all in the Headspace app.
Your upgraded benefit now includes:
Everyday mindfulness
Meditation, sleep support, and mindful activities to help you stress less, sleep soundly, and relax more.
Guided Programs
Move through courses at your own pace, and learn how to manage worry and anxious thoughts.
Coaches and clinicians
Get 24/7 access to a behavioral coach who can guide you through challenging emotions and help you reach your goals. They’ll also refer you to a clinician if you need a little more support.
*Please note: Clinical services (therapy and psychiatry) must be paid out of pocket or through your insurance, except with the coverage conditions below:
- GME physicians have access to 15 covered therapy and psychiatry visits per academic year, sponsored by the UC Office of the President for UC Residents and Fellows.
- Non-GME physicians will need to pay for therapy or psychiatry visits under insurance or out-of-pocket if they choose to use this service. Please note, Kaiser SoCal does not cover clinical services with Headspace. View the list of in-network plans for Headspace.

What is Headspace?
Headspace is a mental health and mindfulness app that offers guided meditations, mindful movement exercises, and other tools to help users manager stress, improve sleep, and enhance focus. It provides a variety of resources, including courses and expert guidance, to support users in their mental wellbeing.
Now with both features of the former Headspace Care app and Headspace, UCSD Health physicians can access private, on-demand behavioral coaching 24/7 in English and Spanish. *Video-based therapy and psychiatry are also available upon request after initial intake with Headspace coach.
Who is eligible to use Headspace?
All clinical UCSDH physicians, UCSD-GME physicians are eligible for free 24/7 on-demand behavioral coaching through the Headspace app. Dependents 18+ are eligible to use Headspace under an eligible user.
Does Headspace cost money?
UCSDH and UCSD GME physicians can access free 24/7 behavioral coaching.
